    With the newly opened sports betting market in the USA, we are searching for a talented US Legal Counsel to play a strategic role in helping our fast-growing, award-winning company. The ideal candidate will be a commercially aware lawyer with excellent legal knowledge, negotiation skills and a solution-oriented attitude. You’ll be a key member of the team and have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on company standards and procedures.

     

    As US Legal Counsel for Better Collective, you will be part of a talented, skilled and very ambitious team. You will provide legal guidance to a variety of internal stakeholders and help drive our US legal processes. You will balance commercial and contractual goals with legal and risk factors and work most closely with commercial law, advertising regulations, e-commerce and gambling law. Occasionally, international and domestic travel will be required.

    Responsibilities

    • Providing legal support to the Head of Group Legal and US executive management
    • Driving our US contract lifecycle from negotiation through to contract execution
    • Managing US licensing processes with support from external counsel as needed;
    • Providing support for corporate governance activities as directed by the Head of Group Legal, such as drafting resolutions and preparing board reports
    • Guiding and advising the US Sites Compliance Assistant on compliance with, and interpretation of, applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations to ensure the compliance of our US-facing websites
    • Ensuring implementation of US data protection processes
    • Maintaining a deep understanding of contract templates, contract policy, legal risk and liability, and company position on various matters
    • Supporting the company’s M&A activity, from due diligence through to integration
    • Providing legal counselling in the areas of intellectual property, consumer law, marketing, technology, digital media, privacy and/or regulatory compliance
    • Project managing the implementation of legal initiatives and projects
    • Providing support to the business on other legal matters on an as-needed basis

    Qualifications

    • A minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience. In-house legal experience is an advantage
    • Juris Doctor Degree. Admission to a state bar is an advantage
    • Experience in commercial, corporate, media or e-commerce law
    • Strong legal drafting and contract management skills
    • Good project management and organisational skills to support a rapidly evolving business
    • Demonstrated leadership and team-working skills in support of a collaborative environment
    • An ability to translate complex legal concepts into simple language and clear action plans
    • An ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment commensurate with specialized legal skills and experience
    • A positive, can-do attitude and be able to fuel growth and innovation
    • An ability to multi-task and follow through in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment with a strong attention to detail
    • The ability to adapt and an eagerness to learn
