Our Client, a world leader in the automatic splicing technology industry, is currently seeking a Field Service Technician to join their team. Butler Automatic, founded in 1956 is the inventor of the zero-speed non-stop automatic splicer, and has supplied over 16,000 automatic splicers during the last fifty years. The company serves the world market with headquarters in Middleboro, MA USA and offices in Geneva Switzerland.


The Field Service Technician is responsible for providing technical support and equipment maintenance to Butler splicers at our customer’s location and via phone support. Tasks will include installation and setup of new equipment, troubleshooting, maintenance, and training of customer operators and maintenance personnel. This position involves regular domestic and occasional international travel, so flexibility is a must. The ideal candidate will have experience with industrial machine installation and/or maintenance. Butler will provide extensive training with our technology.


  • Provide technical and maintenance support to Butler customers 
  • Commission new and upgrade existing equipment in customer plants
  • Train end users on the use and maintenance of Butler machines 
  • Complete maintenance and repair audits of Butler equipment and provide written reports of all repair requirements and recommended replacement parts
  • Provide complete and timely written and oral reports in an accurate and professional manner and in accordance with report formats
  • Promote service parts and preventative maintenance contracts
  • Work flexible hours to support customer’s needs 
  • Extensive travel (75%) majority in the North America with limited travel to Europe and South America and occasional requirements for weekend travel


  • 5-7 years of experience installing, troubleshooting and repairing electrical, pneumatic and mechanical systems 
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for electromechanical systems with PLC Control
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and Butler and OEM manuals
  • Good verbal and written communication skills as required for customer communication, training, and report writing
  • Knowledge of Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC controls/Programming and digital computer interfaces is highly recommended
  • Experience with food packaging machinery or related equipment is desirable
  • Technical training or an engineering background is beneficial 
  • General PC knowledge with strong familiarity with Microsoft Office products - Word, Outlook, Excel
  • Must have or obtain a valid passport
  • Must be able to pass a physical examination
  • Must be able to work with heavy loads and lift 50+ pounds without restriction
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
